Mortels cafe

Kick off your day at Mortels Café, where brunch meets a bit of local culture. Home to the world’s biggest Ugg boots, this spot offers more than just tasty food. With plenty of parking and both indoor and undercover outdoor dining options, you can settle in without the fuss. The menu is full of all your brekkie favourites but the most important thing is that their large coffees are large! And the grassy area outside means the kids can run around and burn off some energy while you sit back and enjoy your delicious coffee. 

Don’t miss the Sheep’s Back Museum – a quirky, quick and interactive visit that’s fun for the whole family! Entry is a gold coin donation and it’s open 7 days a week.

Readers cafe and larder

If you’re after a charming mix of books and brunch, head over to Readers Café and Larder. This gem is located within the East Maitland library, making it perfect for your little bookworms. The menu reads like breakfast at grandma’s with loads of homemade tasty treats to tempt tiny tastebuds. You can even buy fresh local produce in the café.

While you enjoy your meal, the kids can explore the grassed playground out the back. The café offers indoor and outdoor seating to suit any weather and, after brunch, you can drop into the library and let the kids pick out a new book.

Seraphine cafe

If you like a touch of culture with your coffee, Seraphine Café is for you. Attached to the Maitland Regional Art Gallery, you can check MRAG’s calendar to see what’s on for the kids or check out the latest exhibition – perfect for rainy days or a dash of inspiration. 

With an outdoor courtyard for the kids to play and a family friendly menu, it’s a win for everyone. Parking is easy and you can choose between a cosy indoor spot or sunny outdoor seating.

Central Park Cafe

For a more casual vibe, check out Central Park Café, a local favourite with loads of space for the kids to roam – though keep an eye out as it’s right on the highway . There’s always something fun to play with outside, including totem tennis and a cricket bat set. 

You’ve got littles ones? Not a problem. You’ll be delighted with the gated, undercover area with lots of things to occupy tiny hands while you enjoy your meal. 

The Maitland Visitor Information Centre is located right next door, so you can pick up some local tips if you’re visiting or just keen to see what Maitland has to offer.

For something a little different, head to Niche on High. Nestled in the heart of town, this café is known for its eclectic vibe, complete with a fully stocked bookcase that invites exploration. The big grassy area is perfect for energetic kids to burn off steam, while the adults enjoy brunch in the glorious sunshine. The menu is limited but tasty.

It’s a great spot to combine a relaxed meal with some shopping or  a stroll along the river through town and along The Levee.
