Each year, Maitland attracts 708,000 visitors, with 172,000 overnight stays and 536,000 day trippers, injecting $174 million into the local economy (Tourism Research Australia, Local Government Area Profile – Maitland, 2022).
The 2020 – 2030 Maitland Destination Management Plan provides a blueprint for developing Maitland as a destination. This document outlines the shared vision of industry, Government and the community.

The statewide Visitor Attraction Signposting Program has been operating since 1990 and is a partnership between Destination NSW and Transport for NSW.

Destination NSW (DNSW) is the lead government agency for tourism and major events in NSW. DNSW hosts the NSW First Program, which assists businesses to develop, promote and sell their tourism products.
